Welcome to Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust

Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust was established in August 2012 and is committed to instigating and delivering social, economic and environmental regeneration projects and local services. We are fully focussed on improving the quality of life for the residents of Lochalsh and the visitors to our spectacular location on the west coast of Scotland.

As a Community Trust we aim to achieve the sustainable regeneration of our community which, despite its magnificent geographic setting, has been identified as one of the most economically fragile in the Highlands. We are owned and managed by the local community and organised on democratic principles. We are independent but seek to work in partnership with other public, private and voluntary organisations. We take great pride in working with many external groups and, crucially, those within our own community.

We work to generate income through enterprise and the ownership of assets. As a not-for-profit organisation, all of our trading surpluses are reinvested in the community. You can read more about our projects here

Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust is based in the village of Kyle, Lochalsh's main commercial centre, and our remit covers a region including Plockton, Stromeferry, Glenshiel, Glenelg, Dornie and Balmacara – and all points in between! The Trust was set up by local people to tackle key local issues and to improve the quality of life in our community.

To make Lochalsh a better place in which to live, work and visit.

For Lochalsh to be an area where people can fulfil their personal, social and economic potential.

  • To revitalise the village centre in Kyle of Lochalsh.
  • To increase marine tourism and develop initiatives that will improve the overall visitor experience in Lochalsh.
  • 'Fresh Air and Fun' - a theme encompassing leisure, sport and recreation, celebrating the outdoors, community land and assets ownership, environmental improvements, conservation, education and health.

  • Working in partnership with others.
  • Generating local pride and a greater sense of identity.
  • Seizing on opportunities for growth and sustainable development.
  • Helping to deliver projects and enterprises to our area.
  • Acting as catalysts and enablers for change and strengthened communities and businesses in Lochalsh.

We continue to grow our membership and welcome applications for Ordinary, Associate and Junior membership. It is free to be a member of Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust - come and join us. And if you would like to be more closely involved with the Trust's work, either through volunteering or standing as a Trustee, please do contact us - there is plenty to do!
